Air Liquide Welcomes U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm and U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh to its Innovation Campus in Delaware

Today, Air Liquide, an employer with more than 20,000 U.S. employees, will host U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm and U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh at its advanced research and development center, the Innovation Campus Delaware in Newark. Alongside the Secretary of Energy and the Secretary of Labor, Air Liquide will also welcome U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-DE), U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), and Governor of Delaware John Carney. This event will mark Secretary Granholm’s third visit to an Air Liquide facility since her confirmation as Secretary of Energy, and Secretary Walsh’s first visit. The visit will include a tour of Air Liquide’s Innovation Campus Delaware as well as a round-table discussion on innovation and investments in the advancement of hydrogen energy with Air Liquide executives and other local industry leaders.

Since 2007, the Innovation Campus Delaware has been the flagship for Air Liquide R&D in the Americas. It hosts 130 employees from 15 different countries and eight Air Liquide entities in addition to its R&D teams. The Campus is home to a diverse blend of scientific and engineering expertises and benefits from a collaborative ecosystem of researchers, customers, business partners, start-ups, and academics. The Innovation Campus Delaware and its research groups develop technologies to address society’s most critical trends and challenges, including decarbonizing the planet and advancing progress through technology.

Air Liquide's commitment to hydrogen energy

In the past 50 years, Air Liquide has developed unique expertise enabling it to master the entire hydrogen supply chain, from production and storage to distribution and the development of applications for end users, thus contributing to the widespread use of hydrogen as a clean energy source, for mobility in particular. Air Liquide has designed and installed more than 120 stations around the world to date. Hydrogen is an alternative to meet the challenge of clean transportation and thus contributes to the improvement of air quality. Used in a fuel cell, hydrogen combines with oxygen in the air to produce electricity, emitting only water. It does not generate any pollution at the point of use: zero greenhouse gases, zero particles and zero noise. Hydrogen provides a concrete response to the challenges posed by sustainable mobility and local pollution in urban areas.
